DAY 4 - HEROES

INTRODUCTION
If you’ve read the intro you can just skip it…
I’m so glad you’re here and haven’t been turned off by Magic School Bus quotes or dad jokes.
This EP is a dream come true for me.
As a kid, I was very sheltered and rarely left the house. I don’t say this for pity, but I didn’t really have friends. So I had to make my own fun with creativity, drawing, art, video and music.
From the website, video blurbs and marketing, to lyric videos, branding, graphic design and even a lot of the recording and mixing, I’ve learned a lot of this by myself on the fly.
I’m a business student, so none of this was really learned from school. There are a lot of things I didn’t learn from school – including some incredibly important, universal life lessons.
As I’ve mentioned, I’m a bit of a nerd. I like learning – So I’ve elaborated on these stories in the “School of Nerd Rock” – You’ll get useful life lessons by email each day.
WELCOME TO THE
SCHOOL OF NERD ROCK!
SONG
I CAN'T HELP WONDERING WHAT HAVE I DONE?
WAITING FOR A LIFE THAT WON'T COME.
“How Does It Feel?” is a sort of sarcastic tune asking how it feels to make it - how it feels to get exactly what you want out of life and be happy as we understand happiness.
STORY
This song is a frankenstein of different writing sessions. It actually took me about a year or two to finally finish. I wrote most of the chorus first – it was simple. At the time, I was asking a lot of angst-driven young adult “existential” questions about my worldview.
The chorus basically says to go tell your heroes you can’t live life the way they want you to or expected you to.
Letting people down is the main theme of this song. Whether it be a parent, professor, teacher, role model, or anyone else who has ever had expectations for you or your life, this is about the fact that we’ll always let them down in some capacity.
Everyone’s life has twists and turns that don’t line up with what we anticipate. I’ve often looked at my life and gotten mad at myself for not living up to what other people have done at my age. The reality is, that’s irrelevant. My life will always look different. Your life will look different. We’re all goddamn different.
Sometimes we can learn from the mistakes of others, but other times we have to make them for ourselves to understand them or feel them.
So like Ms. Frizzle told me as a kid: “Take chances, make mistakes, get messy.”
Do something, better yourself.
LYRICS
He said make good choices, I started touching her lips again,
Adding to the skeletons in our lives,
You can’t take back all your sins, but don’t make fun of innocence,
And I don’t have to,
Go tell all your heroes,
I can’t live for their today,
Their castles made of stained glass,
Haven’t made a world for me,
And I can’t, I won’t, live that way,
There’s got to be something more important than my thoughts,
about whether my thoughts are important or not,
who am I and what have I done to this place we call home and our idea of it,
I can’t help wondering what I have I done, In waiting for a life that won’t come,
And I don’t have to,
Go tell all your heroes,
I can’t live for their today,
Their castles made of stained glass,
Haven’t made a world for me,
And I can’t, I won’t, live that way,
I’m tripping on thoughts that are swimming through my head,
And the rush of nostalgia from things I’ve never said,
The castles made by the men in the sand with the PHD’s and their great big plans
You must be right to appreciate them but you could never underestimate
the way they look from here,
Go tell all your heroes,
I can’t live for their today,
Their castles made of stained glass,
Haven’t made a world for me,
And I can’t, I won’t, live that way,
